Meeting Bob and Lisa

Wow! FINALLY met my cousin Bob Seng and his partner Lisa Hein. For those of you who might not know, Bob is a first cousin from Seattle who has been living in NY for quite a while now, working as an artist and often collaborating with Lisa in making installation pieces.

I've been able to see my uncle, Bob senior, and my cousin Ron many times in San Antonio since they visit often. And my cousin Julie has also been to SA a few times, so it was kind of surreal to meet a Seng cousin for the first time so late in life! It was a blast, though.

Bob and Lisa invited me and Brie to join this group of (mainly visual) artists for Thanksgiving dinner at a house within walking distance of Bob and Lisa's place, both in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. We got there early and got a tour of the place which Tim and Caroline (the owners) had done a great deal to fix up, including digging out the basement and pouring a cement floor. Tim apparently does custom cabinetry work and the house shows the fruits of his handiwork. Most amazing to me was the back yard! Their house is not freestanding, but it does have a long back yard with grass that's just theirs, which is a first for me to see here in NYC.

Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of Bob and Lisa's place, nor of the dinner at Tim and Caroline's. Bob and Lisa have this amazing place with this very clean, bauhaus look to it (forgive me, guys, if that's the wrong description for it) with a completely finished basement where he can do some of his artwork and even some woodworking. That was a first for me, to see someone's living arrangement with enough space for a small shop.

I haven't spoken to them since Thanksgiving, but I hope we can get together again soon!
